Framed Out Living Room Wall by Amy & Chris

As you all know we have been working on our living room for two years! lol I just cant stay away from re doing it.  We wanted to give the room some character. I love the wainscoting look but not the price, so we came up with a cheaper and different alternative.

We bought MDF board to frame the wall. Once we determined how big and how manys boxes we wanted, Chris started by framing the border of the wall first.  Then he placed the mdf boards vertically and then finally horizontal to complete the boxes.

Once the framing was complete, Chris covered any holes and gaps with putty to give a seamless look. Then he completed the project by painting the entire wall and framing. I would like to eventually put big, funky frames with pictures in the boxes. I will update when that portion is complete!

Total cost and Material:
MDF board $50
The rest of supplies we already had from previous projects.
Paint color: Raffia Cream (Home Depot)

Thanks for stopping by, we couldnt be happier with the finished product!

  7. This looks amazing!!! I love the board and batten going to the ceiling and the colors in there. The colors are very similar to my guest bedroom with a dark blue and creamy white.

  10. This looks great! It makes such a difference! We just purchased our materials last weekend to do a wall in our bedroom. Unfortunately, we are having trouble getting the old wiring down on the wall and we are not supposed to block it off. Hopefully we can up with something and it will look as good as yours! Thanks so much for partying at The Creative Spark! Have a great week!

  11. Looks amazing! I have been thinking about doing something similar in my bathroom and I am glad to see an example of one completed! I have to know if you only framed out the wall...is there anything that you put on the wall in the middle of the boxes?? My walls have a little texture to them and I am wondering if that will look weird!? You are so inspiring me to finally get this done!

    1. Thanks so much, Sam. Can you believe it only cost them around fifty dollars? I think that's a big transformation for a minimal cost. Can't wait to see if you try this out. Megan
