Adding Personality to a Bookcase

We had a bookcase that we purchased from Wal-Mart a few years back. It was pretty sad looking, and so we purchased a roll of wall paper from Lowe's and gave it some personality.  It's called Spanish Tile by Allen and Roth and is $21.00 for a roll.  We have plenty left over for other projects we can come up with too.We took off the cardboard backing of the bookcase very simply.  We just used spray adhesive to adhere the wallpaper to the cardboard panel on the back of the bookcase.

I decided to use the bookcase next to the bar we have in our family room to display more of my glasses that we have.  It really makes everything stand out rather than blend into the black background.

The top of the bookshelf is now home to my lamp from Marshalls, some wine bottle votives and a fleur de lis from Home Goods.

Considering I had all the items in my house before this simple update cost only a few dollars because I only used a portion of the roll. I am excited to think of what else I can use the rest of the roll for in the future.

Thanks for stopping by.

  6. I just removed the doors from my kitchen cabinets and lined the walls with shelving paper. It is amazing what a pattern and pop of color can do for a shelving unit. Your bookcase looks great!

  10. Megan, that looks AMAZING. What a great custom bookcase you have now. No one would guess that started as a Walmart bookcase. That wallpaper is FABULOUS. And, I love that instead of filling it with books, you filled it with drinking glasses...when can I come over for a drink :)

  15. Oh my heck, this is so cute! What a good idea to add some variety to your bookshelf! We just barely bought some really cheap bookshelves last month and they're honestly kind of an eye sore. I'm going to be doing this for sure! Thank you so much for teaching me Megan! :) Thank you also for sharing this at my link party. You are great!
