Golf Ball Firework Art

Fourth of July is just around the corner, and Wynn and I got started on some patriotic crafts for window decorations. The supplies you will need for this craft are:

-paint

-golf balls

-Dollar Tree cake pan or other container

-plastic cup

-plastic fork or spoon

-construction paper

I originally saw this idea on the blog The Realistic Mama and was excited to see something that we could make that would be easy to do and clean up.

We were lucky that a relative gave us about five hundred golf balls that ended up in her yard from golfers missing the course completely. Therefore, we did not have to buy any new balls to use for this project. I'm sure that would be considered a sin.

The first step was that we poured paint into a plastic cup and dropped in the ball. Wynn used a plastic fork to get the ball covered completely. Then I traced the bottom of the cake pan on a piece of construction paper and placed the paper into the pan. Wynn flipped the ball out of the cup and pushed it around the pan.  It was fun to see the pattern that the golf ball made with the paint.

Next we added in some blue paint and she continued the process again.

Wynn was more excited that it was turning out purple in some of the places from the combining of colors.  We did various colors of paper, and then we placed them on the counter to dry for a bit.

Once dry we used scissors to simply cut out the shape of fireworks. We hung them on our french door windows for the 4th. Wynn has already asked to make more, and I am sure we will do a few extra. It was quick and easy and we have all the materials to make them.

Patriotic Wreath

I had pinned a beautiful Halloween wreath from The Crafted Sparrow a few months ago, and really wanted to create something similar for a wreath for all the Patriotic summer holidays.

I purchased some burlap with red,blue and silver accents from Michaels, a straw wreath form, colored felt and some mini pinwheels. I used a paper star I already had and some pins to attach the pieces of the wreath together.

I wrapped the straw wreath form in the plastic it came wrapped in, and that helps it not fall apart.  I then followed the instructions from the The Crafted Sparrow to add the felt pieces. Here was my pile of them after I cut them out. I was not too worried about the them being the same perfect shape. I need to cut them out quickly.

 I then let Wynn decorate a paper star for me to add. She decided to draw the blue and red lines around the edges. I thought it looked very good for a four year old. Then I took a part a pinwheel from the stick it came with and put it in with a pin.

Patriotic Treat Cup Flowers

I was in the mood to create something in red, white and blue for our kitchen.  Using a glass pedestal container I had already I placed as with a piece of Styrofoam in the bottom. I covered the Styrofoam with some leftover napkins from the last Fourth of July.

I took some treat cups from Wynn's polka dot party and cut a few times to create a flower shape. I only had a few remaining and wanted to find some way to use them.

I flattened the cups out and added a sticker to the center. I glued them to wooden skewers. I also cut out some star shapes using a cookie cutter as a template. Once everything was secure to the skewers I pushed them into the Styrofoam piece in the container.

A little bit of red, white and blue for my kitchen and I only had to use leftover party and craft supplies for it. I am still on a mission to use mainly what I have lying around the house instead of bringing more stuff in. Maybe it is the nesting phase already?

Patriotic Letter Wreath

I created a patriotic letter wreath for my friend as a housewarming present. I picked up a large wooden letter from Michaels for a few dollars and a sheet of moss.

I traced the letter onto the back of the sheet of moss with a sharpie. Then I applied some glue to the letter and attached the moss after I cut it out.

Using some leftover paper flowers and some ribbon I was able to add a little bit of embellishment in patriotic colors.

I'm hoping that this will be the perfect decoration year round since she lives in seaside town, and this has a somewhat nautical feel to it as well.

Patriotic Cupcake Liner Wreath

This coffee filter wreath is the wreath that keeps on giving.  I first created the wreath for a spring and summer design.

I removed the embellishments and created a Valentine Wreath with some simple hearts added instead.

This is the next version I have created. I figured that this wreath could go from Memorial Day to July 4th.  I had some cupcake liners that I bought for less than a dollar at Jo-Ann Fabrics last summer.  I added the the liners by wrapping them every few inches around the wreath.

I still have plenty of liners leftover in the package to actually use for cupcakes.  I had some leftover star decorations from the Dollar Tree and I attached those where the hearts and previous fabric flowers were placed.  Thanks for stopping by!
