Master Bedroom Progress

Do you feel like all of my posts are about the progress of a particular room? Well that is because we are working on about five spaces all at the same time right now. We are trying to cram as many projects into the time we have left until we become outnumbered around here.

Rob hung the frames above our bed that I purchased from Target's Threshold line.  I received my picture from Snapfish that I had made in a poster size to put in one frame. For now the other frame will remain empty until the new additions arrive.

I finally found some bedding that I thought would go perfectly with our dark wall from Overstock.  It was a great deal for what I was looking to spend. I then realized after I purchased it it was the same exact duvet I had my mom buy for her house a few months back. I guess I really did like it!  I am on the hunt for more accessories for the room, and a chair for another part of the room.

Then I was wondering what in the world I would put on the walls. I found these napkins at Target. They are from the Threshold line, and they were $10 for 4 napkins. 

I placed two of them in two frames I had used previously in the room. I placed on over a dresser we had redone before we entered the world of blogging.  I placed the other frame on the opposite side of the window near our bed.

Then I shopped around my house for accessories for my dresser. I grabbed a lamp that was not being used from the basement. I placed a sweet little frame from my Aunt on the opposite side.

I used the wrap that the napkins came with to cover a rattan bottle from my friend Sharon's tag sale at Elizabeth & Co. I did this last year with my napkins for fall, so I just changed it up a bit here for our room. Then I found this gold bowl in the basement from Target a few years ago and threw all my bracelets into it for now.

Here is everything together next to my new curtains from IKEA. We made the curtain rod go twenty inches past the window on either side to make it appear larger. We only have one window in our room, and having the curtains this way makes a huge difference.  

Since the room was primarily empty and ignored for a long time I hardly recognize it when I come in. It gives me a very calm feeling now...I guess this should be considered the calm before the twin storm.  Thank you for stopping by!

New Paint Color

First of all I'd like to say that my thoughts are with those affected by the storms in Oklahoma. It is such an unthinkable tragedy and my heart is breaking for them all.

 In the midst of our kitchen redo we have taken on yet another project.  We had never painted the guest room in our home because the color the previous owners left worked fine for us. They did paint the ceiling the same color as the walls and with one window it always felt dark in the room. With some tips from Cyndy from The Creativity Exchange we decided to try out Sherwin Williams paint in Repose Gray.  We also grabbed some white ceiling paint to get that done as well.

This 14 x 12 room only required a half of a gallon and it covered perfectly. We had not previously used SW paint, but I see us using it a lot in the future. What a great product!

It is a small change but it really brightens up the space quite a bit.   This room will be seeing some major changes in the coming weeks, so be sure to stay tuned.  Thanks for stopping by!

Guest Room Updates

We've had a guest room that's been pretty much a place to ignore. However, we have been slowly but surely making changes. We still need to paint the entire room, but we think it's something we will do in the coming months. That means that the items I've gotten for the wall so far won't be up just yet.

I wanted to change up some pillow covers I had gotten on clearance with insert at JCPenney for $4 each a few years back.  I used some RIT dye for the first time, and made them feel like something brand new for little cost.  They went from cream to gray within five minutes of stirring the mixture around in some warm water. It was an easy update and I'm glad I finally tried it out.

 I've added them to the bed in the guest room.  Here they are along with some other items I've added to the room so far.

Table Lamps
1. Yellow from Target on clearance for $15
2. Gray a redo from Marshalls for $30

Night Stands
1. Left Side is a purchase from the Tag Sale by Elizabeth & Co for around $50.
2. Right Side is the fold in Gossip Table we received from our neighbor for free.

Bed:
1. My Aunt gave this to us a few years ago and we love the chippy paint on it.
2. Quilt Coverlet from Kohl's $30 with sale and Kohl's Cash.
3. Pillow Covers from a few Etsy Stores (Glam Design & Elmeno Pillows) and Home Goods.  Don't tell Amy at While Wearing Heels that I didn't make them myself. :)

Wynn's Room by Rob and Megan

Before we did many DIY or home improvement projects around our house we completed the nursery for our daughter, Wynn.  This was also before we had a blog, so we thought we would share it because it is our favorite room in the house.

Here is a photo of the room the day we moved in, and at the point we began putting the nursery together it still looked like this a year later.  Rob began by laying Brazillian Koa flooring in the room and in the closet.  We then bought a zebra rug from Overstock for around $60.00.  That's our boy Barkley not looking very happy.  

 Rob then used mdf board to create wainscoting around the room.  He framed out the wainscoting but left it as plain wall inside each "box"   We painted it white and then painted above with Valspar's Woodlawn Silver Brook. We knew we were having a girl but liked the look of blue in her room.  

We ordered a decal with Wynn's name from A Hint of Chic Boutique on Etsy  and a ribbon mobile from Polka Dot Skies on Etsy. Our furniture is by Cocoon and we purchased it through WayFair.

 I framed coordinating scrapbook paper because I couldn't find any artwork that really matched the look that I was going for.

 I was able to get a matching bookcase from Target and decorated it with some of the gifts Wynn received at the shower.

Here is the finished room. We got some drapes from Tuesday Morning and added a chenille glider from Babies R US.  I guess I should take an after picture since Wynn is now two and using this room. Just picture books all over the place instead of on the bookshelf.  :)

Starburst Mirror

I wanted to re create the famous starburst mirror which can go for up to a few hundred bucks. All you need is a small mirror size of your choice, skewers, mirror hook, spray paint and of course my best friend the hot glue gun!

For two starburst mirrors:
Small- Dollar Store $1
Medium- Michaels $4
Variety of mirror sizes - Michaels $3
 Skewers - already had at home but can be bought anywhere for about $2
Spray paint- already had from other projects
Total: $8 makes two!

Upholstered Headboard

Okay, well Rob and I were interested in having an upholstered headboard. I did the typical furniture search online...and realized the one that I mostly wanted was way over any budget that I had in mind. Here is where the inspiration came from...the Restoration Hardware Wallace Upholstered Bed...a mere $1990 plus shipping. Um....that wasn't going to fly.

So we decided to look into findnig a project ideas on pinterest. I found this great tutorial for making a headboard on an awesome blog called Max and Isabella Rooms. Here is the link to their beautiful project.

Here are the steps that we took. We first went to Jo-Anne fabrics. We were able to spend approximately $28.00 on fabric (2.5 yards)  Rob went back the next day to purchase the foam needed for the project. The next day the salesperson said it would be 50% off and we had a 10% off coupon. Therefore, the delay was 100% necessary. Rob went back and spent around $70.00 on the foam which was also about 2.5 yards.

We obtained our hammered nickel tacks from both Jo-Ann and Lowe's. I think Rob bought all the boxes he could find. We could have gotten the tacks in strips, but we were too excited to start the project and didn't want to wait for an online order to get shipped to us.
