Fun Spring Ideas

Hey all! Sorry we have been off the grid for a bit. This winter hit all of us pretty hard with illnesses, and with basketball coaching for Rob there did not leave much time for pretty much anything.  Hopefully with spring just around the corner we will be able to share some fun projects with you.  In honor of spring and Easter I thought I would share some of my favorite crafts and kid project ideas with you.

Last year instead of an Easter basket for Wynn I put together an Easter suitcase. She loved it, and she was able to stow all of her goodies in the suitcase when we hit the road home from my parents house.

These Target buckets were easily transformed into PBK Knock Offs with vinyl lettering. I used my Silhouette Machine, but you can purchase pre-cut lettering at a craft store.

Another popular post for us is the Easter Gift in a Jar idea with a simple Play-Doh container and cutters in animal shapes.

A sweet little spring mantel that I showcased my parents antique printing drawer.

And last but not least....a super cute spring gift idea that works for anyone. This particular one went to Wynn's preschool teacher one year.  This year I sent in a simple potted clover plant that covered St. Patrick's Day and spring all in one.

Spring Gift Idea

As you probably have already noticed I love to send in a little something for Wynn's teachers every once in a while. Being a former teacher myself I know how stressful the year can get especially as we approach spring break. Wynn and I went to Target together and picked out a few goodies to share.

These adorable baskets are available in the Dollar Spot for $3. They had a few different colors. Wynn mentioned that her teacher said how much she loves Peeps. So, Wynn picked out a box of yellow chicks for her. We added a simple chalkboard label tag to all the gifts, and I purchased a package of them from Michaels. I wrote the names with chalkboard markers so they would not smear.

We also picked up some burlap bags for the teacher assistants in the Target Dollar Spot and they were a dollar each. We filled them with some end of the aisle clearance plain note cards. I took them out of the packaging and tied this with a ribbon. Then we also added a white chocolate egg we found for a buck in the Easter candy aisle.  The gifts cost around $4 to make for each teacher. Wynn has four teachers, and so this was a pretty cost effective way to send a little thanks.  Here is a little shot of all the chalkboard tags together before we assembled the gifts.

I had some paper flowers that I had gotten in the Michaels dollar aisle last year, and I know they still have them in there now. I hot glued a little flower to the front of each bag to add a little bit of something to it.

Easter Suitcase

I've had my eye on these adorable suitcases at Target for some time. They went on clearance about a week ago, and my Target had a bunch of pink and the blue checkered suitcases still available. I was buying a few larger size items for Wynn's basket for Easter. It was not going to fit in her typical Easter basket, and so I figured I would turn this adorable suitcase into her Easter basket. I believe the suitcase was about $6.00.  Plus we can just close it up and she can take all her goodies around the house easily.

April showers bring May flowers right? I figured this clearance umbrella was a cute addition with the matching headband.  The Disney Princess umbrella we have for Wynn has seen better days, and so this is actually a practical gift as well.

A few other goodies from her favorite characters. Most of these items were found at Target, and the Calico Critter bunny I bought on Zulily.

A few delicious candy items, and a new notebook to draw in while we are on our morning and afternoon car rides from school and work filled out the rest of the suitcase.

Come On Spring Wreath

As I sit here typing this we have just received a few more inches of the lovely white stuff. I think this year having three kiddos on the go makes me long for spring even more. I want to get outside with everyone and go places. I feel like we have been inside for as long as the boys could walk. I decided I was ready for a spring wreath. I know it may be wishful thinking in mid-February, but I am thinking positively.  

I used the great tutorial again from Top This Top That.  I love how easy it is to make this wreath, and then you can add decorations as the season changes.

I used a wire wreath form, about two and a half rolls of plain burlap, a smaller roll of pink burlap, Silhouette vinyl, Silhouette machine, a wooden plaque from Michaels and shelf liner.  I made the wreath and added the bit of burlap in pink at the top. I figured that saved me from making a big bow for the top of it since it already resembles a bow.  Then I placed some shelf liner on the wooden plaque I got at Michaels. It comes off pretty easily, and so I think I will be able to peel it off and reuse it if I felt like changing up the wreath.

I cut out the word Spring on my Silhouette Cameo machine, and then attached the wooden plaque with some ribbon I had on hand. I added an extra paper flower from a set I picked up in the dollar aisle at Michaels with a glue dot.   I did glue the ribbon to the backside of the plaque, and then tied it through the wire at the top.  I am hoping maybe that cute little groundhog was wrong and spring will be coming earlier after all. Spring Teacher Gift

I always try and send a little something into Wynn's preschool teachers for various holidays or seasons. I created this gift for them for about under $15 for two of them.

I grabbed these adorable gardening gloves, seeds and flower pots from the Target gardening section. I may have to go back and get one of these sets of gloves for myself.  I added a burlap flower that was from the Michaels dollar section. It already had a clip on it, and so it can be easily removed and used for other purposes.

 I've had these little plant markers for a while. I purchased them in a package at Michaels. I just wrote a simple message on them for the teachers.

Burlap Egg Craft & Spring Mantel

I apparently cannot get enough of the burlap canvases at Michaels. I made this simple project for my spring mantel at my girls craft night. I went with the same concept of my burlap monogram. It was fun and easy to do.

I layered a piece of scrapbook paper and a doily using spray adhesive. Then I cut out a circle shape from a moss mat I purchased from Hobby Lobby. I topped that off with a blue robin's egg. I am making one of these for each of Wynn's teachers for Easter too. 


It looks cute with my Easter decorations on my mantel this spring. I have my Easter Printable I shared up there along with my Spring Wreath I shared last year. I paired my new Egg Burlap piece with a wooden bunny from the Etsy Shop by Amy at  While Wearing Heels. I love it!

It is finally beginning to feel like spring here in Maryland, and so this mantel finally feels appropriate. Hopefully we are done with the snow. Enjoy your day!

Spring Wreath

My friends and I got together a week ago and had a craft night. We each made a fabric covered wreath and we followed a tutorial provided by The Newlywed Pilgrimage.  

I purchased three different spring like pattern fabrics and the 18" straw wreath from Hobby Lobby.

 Then we made simple burlap flowers for the wreath decorations. We had a great time getting together and making the wreaths.

My friends also made some burlap monograms signs similar to what I have shared here on the blog. 

A Little Touch of Spring

I like to find items off of the website Woot.  They have some great sale prices and I picked up the Christmas tray below for $3.00 a few weeks ago. I placed some scrapbook paper on top of the tray.  I added a sequin bunny from the Target dollar spot and some eggs from Jo-Ann's. 

I'm thinking I can just change up the paper and use this for all seasons down the road.

Play-Doh Easter Gift Idea

I created these simple Easter gifts with a jar from the Dollar Tree.  I filled it with two Easter related cookie cutters that came in a four pack for a dollar at Target, some Easter Grass and a small sized Play-Doh. 

Then I added a simple bunny out of card stock to the top that I cut out on my silhouette machine.

I was able to make three small gifts for around $7 total.  I hope these little jars are a hit with the little tykes getting them.

Spring Monogram

I'll admit that I enjoy and am slighting obsessed with any type of monogram or letter project. I bought a handful of these paper mache V's from Hobby Lobby.   I simply applied some scrapbook paper to the front of it with mod podge.  Thanks to my mother in law for giving me a huge pile of scrapbook paper a few weeks back.  Then added a little flower with a pom center from leftover flowers from my spring jar project.  This will have a home soon somewhere in my house.

Spring Mantel

My mantel continues to get some attention into spring. I think a main reason I avoided it was because I never had enough seasonal decor to really do anything. Thankfully I have accumulated some items over the past year from sales and my family. I placed some eggs inside my printers drawer that I also have decorated with a small wreath. 

The cute little bunny on the right was sent from one of my favorite family members as a little gift. I placed a large glass container on the right and I filled with eggs and split peas.  I added a mason jar from my grandmother. It is filled with eggs and I just love that the lid has a glass piece inside of it inside of metal one.  I had an egg pot given to me last year, so this year I put some small daffodils inside of it this year. It is nice to have something fresh on the mantel, and I'm hoping that I can keep it around a while. The other side has my glass jar with some eggs and some leftover paper shred from my Valentine's ombre project.  Then my little bunny made from a lemonade bottle.

Printers Drawer and Wreath

My parents just gave me their printers drawer. I remember this hanging in our kitchen growing up with all sorts of knick knacks in it. My grandmother has one also in her kitchen still. I took a straw form wreath and wrapped it in jute. Then I added some fabric rosettes and banner with buttons.

I am very excited to have the printers drawer to use for future project. It is going to stay just the way it is because Rob said there is no way it will ever get painted. :)
