Stenciled Wall Art - The Beginning of Decorating

My college roommate and I had a girls weekend and completed a DIY project in her new digs.  She had a blank canvas, so she was adventurous and wanted to complete a project she had pinned from The Idea Room .  The wall in her dining room was a very light gray with a hint of green.  It is difficult to see the color in this photo.

My sister in law, Amy, had already purchased this stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils and graciously offered to let us borrow it.  We measured where she wanted to have it on the wall. Then painted it over with a roller and used one entire sample size paint from Valspar purchased at Lowe's. The total cost for the sample was around $3.00.

Then we headed to AC Moore to purchase a frame to go over the stencil.  She has plans to add a few other accents to this wall, but this was the start and it came out better than we expected. Luckily we found an extra gallon of the original paint to do some touching up after the stencil dried. We were quite nervous about this project, and in the end it came out better than we had thought it would. It turned out to seem iridescent on the wall with the color we used with the stencil.

The total cost for the project was around $38 dollars for the frame and paint. Much less than a large piece of art work from any store we saw while shopping this weekend.
I am excited to see what else she has in store with this wall and the rest of the space.

Thanks for stopping by!

I am visiting from Skip to my Lou, and I have been looking through all your projects. You have some great, great stuff here! I would love it if you'd come over and link up some of your OLDER posts (that's right, Older). I host and oldie's link party, where we strive to give a little more exposure to those old, awesome posts that we were writing when only our moms and husbands were reading our blogs (or was that just me?!?)
    So, consider stopping by!
