Privacy for the Princess

Did you know that we have royalty living in our home? I did not realize this myself until my four year old proclaimed that she was in fact a princess. She also stated that all princesses need "confidence". I told her that it was a pretty big word for her to use. She said it means that she gets to shut her door and not let any one in her room. I let her know that the word she was searching for was privacy. She then instructed me to make her a sign for her door that told everyone she needed privacy. I got right on it, because I figured that since she is royalty she must be in charge. :)  I think the realization that she may be royalty probably all started when I purchased this "Sleeping Beauty" mirror for her from the tag sale at Elizabeth & Co.  

 I took a wood shape from Michaels and painted it with some purple craft paint.

 I used two images from the Silhouette online store and some letters on the software already to cut out on pink vinyl.  Then we hung it on her door as soon as everything was dry and ready to go.

I sure hope Ty and Davis learn to read quickly. She has been pointing it out to them quite often.  

Hair Accessories Storage

I have been drowning a sea of little girl hair accessories. Wynn has accumulated so many barrettes, bows, headbands and hair ties and they are everywhere. I had pinned several tutorials from great bloggers on making a headband holder out of oatmeal containers. I thought I was going to get on the bandwagon and make one. But, then I realized that Wynn would probably never put them back on there, and it may be difficult for her to use that kind of organizer so young.  This way the items will not fall off either.

I purchased these acrylic containers from Amazon.

I filled the containers up very quickly. Headbands easily fit into the largest container. The medium container is designated for small clips and pony tail holders. The smallest was the perfect size for her bracelets and watches.

I once again used my Silhouette Cameo to create some vinyl stickers for her containers. I placed a large "W" and some bows onto the containers. They seemed like they need a little something more, and so then I added the paper flowers to the two smaller containers.

PBK Inspired Easter Buckets

 With Easter approaching I wanted to order some sort of basket or bucket for Ty and Davis for their first Easter. I saw these adorable buckets on Pottery Barn Kids, but with two kiddos $26 a piece including having their initials on them was a little steep.  Here are my inspiration buckets:

I picked up some adorable buckets in the Target Easter section for $5 a piece, and then cut out their monogram on my Silhouette Cameo with some white vinyl adhesive. I already had the white vinyl from previous projects, and so the total cost for this project was $10 instead of the PBK price of $52.

I filled the buckets with a new Easter book, a rattle and these adorable bow ties that I found in the Dollar Spot at Target. I love how they are on the little paper frog too.

I am very happy with how these turned out. They are the perfect buckets that I can use for the boys for years to come.

Silhouette Piggy Bank

Wynn and I took a plain white piggy bank that I purchased on Amazon and decorated it with some vinyl cutouts from my Silhouette Cameo.  Wynn insisted that her soon to be cousin have a piggy bank just like the one she has.

Instead of just leaving the bank looking plain I let Wynn pick out an image for it. She chose the girl silhouette and then said we needed to place an "S" for Sawyer on one of the sides.

This is such an easy item to personalize for any child. I know that Sawyer will be able to use this for a long time. 

This project was another quick one that Wynn and I did together while the boys napped. We are beginning to do a lot more projects together now that she is four. Here is a new picture of the three kiddos I thought I'd share...

We ended up celebrating Valentine's Day mostly snowed in and we even took all three kids out to an early dinner. It was the second time we have done that and we all made it out alive.  

Land of Nod Inspired Kids Artwork

I saw some adorable wall decor in the Land of Nod catalog a few weeks ago. I wanted to fill a small space in the nursery, and decided to make my own version inspired by the $25 a piece framed wall decor from Land of Nod.

I was at first going to purchase square frames, but decided in the end that it was not cost effective. The frames that the LON has are 10 X 10, and I ended up purchasing 6 X 6 canvases. The reason I chose that size was that I found the some scrapbook paper I wanted to use in that dimension.

I purchased the canvases through a seller on Amazon. The only reason I did this was because I knew I could get them easier this way. I had no idea if there would be a Michaels trip in my near future and I did not want to wait.  I simply mod podged the scrapbook paper to the canvas. Then I cut out some animal shapes I had purchased for my Silhouette Cameo machine. The entire project took about twenty minutes of work and some drying time in between.

I am very happy with how they turned out. It cost approximately $8 dollars for me to make four of them. Instead of the $100 it would have cost to buy four of these from Land of Nod.

Framed Holiday Art

I found some lovely paper printables on Hostess With The Mostess last year and printed them off.  I did not have a plan to use them then, but I decided that this Christmas I would have a great reason to use them.

I then took some gold and silver vinyl and cut out some holiday shapes on my Silhouette Cameo. I then just added the cut out to the scrapbook paper printables.

Then I framed them and put them up in my living room for easy decorating.

Cabinet Door Halloween Craft and Halloween Bottles

When we tore out our old kitchen cabinets we held onto some drawers and door fronts. The cabinet door front under our sink sat downstairs in the pile of scrap wood. I repainted it white and then decided to do something for Halloween with it.

I cut out the spider and spider web on my Silhouette, and then added some black and silver rhinestones as well.  

I also added some cut outs in vinyl from my Silhouette machine to various bottles. I did not put anything on the one bottle because it already says Worm Syrup on it. I thought was fit in pretty well with the Halloween vibe. A few quick and easy Halloween projects that make me smile. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Halloween Treat Bag

I took a bag from Michaels and some flocked heat transfer vinyl to create a new Halloween treat bag for Wynn. Hopefully we will get to do some trick or treating this year.  Wynn is really excited about it, and keeps asking for her costume already. That's probably because I've already put up Halloween decorations.

I picked up the bag from Michaels for a $1. They had several different colors in stock, and I think they would make great gift bags too.

I cut out this cute little witch from the Silhouette studio images, and then ironed it on the bag. It does take a lot longer than the 60 seconds or so that it says to iron it on the packaging. It always seems to take me several minutes for heat transfer vinyl to stick.  I do like the flocked heat transfer material because it is quite a bit easier to work with.

I also added a little strip of ribbon on the side. Wynn said the bag needed some spiders on it, and so we grabbed a roll of that at Michaels too.

Wynn really likes the bag, and has already asked on a few occasions if I could fill it with candy for her to practice trick or treating. Smart girl! Thanks for stopping by!

Masking Tape Wall Art

I purchased this roll of masking tape on clearance at Target. Anything with a red clearance tag generally catches my attention there. I picked it up for around $2.50.

I found a frame in my basement that was not being used anywhere at the moment.  I wrapped the masking tape around a piece of cardboard in the frame and then added some cut out vinyl from my Silhouette Cameo.  This took about five minutes to complete, and will fit easily into the nursery.  Right now I'm going to for a gray, white, navy and teal color scheme no matter what the genders are going to be.

A Gift for a Bride to Be

I ventured to Hobby Lobby yesterday to get some odds and ends. I wish I had one closer, but the two around me are about 45 minutes in each direction. I have a little get together tomorrow in honor of my friend who is getting married in a few weeks. I picked up this 5 X 7 wall frame for $7.99 on sale. I liked the distressed look and thought it would look nice with a photo from her wedding or her engagement pictures in it.

I had a leftover burlap flower from the package I bought for my kitchen bins. Her wedding is a burlap and lace styled event so the flower fit perfectly.  Then a little bit of leftover vinyl was added to include the date.  Just a little change to personalize the frame for her.  I placed her wedding invitation in it for now, and thought it looked really cute in there. But, for now the blonde girl will have to do for sharing on the blog purposes.

This frame is paired with some wine from the year she met her soon to be husband.  I think it will make the perfect little present for her girls dinner tomorrow.

Wall Decor for a Buck

I found a framed piece of nursery decor at a consignment sale for a dollar. I liked the frame and decided to snag it for a future project. I figured I would be able to use it in Wynn's room as I adjust her decor a bit.  

I had this piece of scrapbook paper leftover from a previous project. After attaching it to the previous artwork I placed the Silhouette vinyl seahorse on top of it.  I also gave the frame a coating of white paint.

Here is the artwork when I first bought it. It said on the back that it was from Target so I'm sure it was probably between 10-15 dollars if I could guess. I had to cut open the back cardboard of it to get into the frame.  It was very easy to push it back into place after I made my changes to it.

Now I have a new piece of wall decor for a $1.  Can't beat that price!  Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend.  It is supposed to be a hot one here in Maryland.

Mr and Mrs. Chair Signs

This year I have three friends who are tying the knot. Considering we have not really been too many weddings recently it is a lot of fun making up small gifts for these ladies.   Once again I made some signs for the bride and groom, and made them in a different way than the previous signs I shared.

I found these chalkboard circles for a buck at Michaels and purchased two. 

Using my Silhouette I cut out the lettering for the signs and small starfish. I used about half of a 12 x 12 sheet of sand colored vinyl.  This is a beach wedding, so I thought that the starfish would be appropriate. I took out the black rope that the circles came with and replaced them with some off white ribbon that I had.

They will be a simple addition to the chairs of the bride and groom at their beach side wedding.

Pottery Barn Kids Knock Off Mermaid Sign

I really got inspired when I received the most recent Pottery Barn Kids magazine. There are some things that I do end up buying from there (usually on sale), but I do like to create some of the adorable kids decorations or items that they have to offer. I made this mermaid sign for Wynn's room with a wooden plaque from Michaels, some white vinyl adhesive, turquoise paint from a previous project and my Silhoutte machine. 

 

I painted over the plaque that was around $6 if I can remember correctly.  I went through the images I had previously purchased through Silhouette and picked out an arrow and starfish for the sign. I typed up the wording and cut everything out on a pretty small piece of vinyl, and there was not a lot of waste.  The plaque is approximately 12 inches by 6 inches.

Here is the piece from PBK that runs about $29 plus s/h.  I like how their sign has individual boards glued together, but I was in a time crunch and I already had the wooden plaque in my basement.  That way I did not have to purchase something new.
